Our story began like many,

having beers, and swapping ideas about food
that we love and we started to dream
about the type of restaurant we would want.

Our story began like many, three high school friends hanging out together, having beers, and swapping ideas about food that we love and we started to dream about the type of restaurant we would want.

It was only a dream then, but we quickly transformed ourselves into a team hoping to create a restaurant based on fresh, quality ingredients served in a fun and unpretentious atmosphere. One day, on a stroll through La Latina, we ran across the perfect place on a street we loved, Cava Alta 13. In no time–just a few days– we signed the lease and there was no turning back…sometimes it is best to just go for it and see if you can make your dreams work.

That’s how we started. One small restaurant, a shoestring budget and a lot of support from family and friends. Every day was invested in countless food trials as we transformed recipes, tasted ingredients, and tweaked equipment. We went to great lengths to find the perfect way to grind the meat, shape the burgers, even deciding when to cut the potatoes for the perfect French fries. The key to the restaurant’s success was clear to us from the first day that we got together continues to be our guiding principle today: everything fresh and made in-house, from the sauces, to desserts to our starters… Everything element is important when you want it all to be perfect.

After almost five years of perfecting the burger at MAD Cafe, we decided to open a second restaurant, MAD Grill in order to expand our focus into other areas of traditional American fare.

Recently, we have embarked on two new projects while sticking to our guiding principle: Freaks Brewing and Jimbo Smokehouse. Freaks Brewing is producing our own delicious micro-brewed beer while Jimbo’s focus is traditional barbecue smoking. These two new, fun projects are surprising everyone with their innovation and flavors while making the MAD restaurants even better.
